High School Class Descriptions


 

Class: United States History
Description:    Exploring America is a high school level American History curriculum combining American History, American Literature, and bible. It helps
high school students gain a fuller understanding of our nation's past as they read the history narrative, read classic American literature, complete writing
assignments, and study what the Bible says about issues and ideas in American history.
 

Class: American Literature
Description:   Through this survey of American literature we will study major American authors such as Benjamin Franklin, Nathaniel Hawthorne,
Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe, Mark Twain and Robert Frost. We well learn about major literary movements through American literature.
We will consider themes such as individualism, self-reliance, democracy and the American dream. 
 

Class: Spanish 1
Description:     We will be learning to conjugate verbs and will get a very thorough education in Spanish! Students will be working out of workbooks but also
getting a lot of dialogue practice in class.  
 

Class: Creation Science
Description:     This class is designed to give young people a scientific and Biblical defense for believing in a Creator. They will learn why evolutionism is a
worldview or belief system more than science, but they will also gain an understanding of the scientific basis of evolutionism, and why it is deeply flawed.
They will also gain a new appreciation for the wonder of God's creation.
 

Class: Geometry
Description:  Topics to be covered include points, lines and planes, deductive reasoning, parallel lines and planes, congruent triangles, quadrilaterals, inequalities,
similar polygons, right triangles, circles, constructions, area and volume, coordinate geometry.
 

Class: Algebra 2nd Year
Description:    Topics to be covered include equations, and inequalities, functions and graphs, systems of equations, and inequalities, matrices and
determinants, polynomials, rational expressions, irrational and complex numbers, quadratic and polynomial functions, conic sections, exponential and
logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions and graphs.
 

Class: Chapel
Description:    Chapel is a time when students come together to focus their hearts and minds on Christ. In class we will plan and prepare for chapel time. We will
develop leadership skills through prayer, worship, scripture memory and outreach. Each student will be encouraged to use their own God-given skills and ideas in
a fun and meaningful way for chapel (e.g. music, drama, testimonies, etc.). We will also plan and facilitate several projects for the co-op. Minimal required
homework will be assigned.
 

Class: Yearbook / Newsletter
Description:    As part of this class, we will work cooperatively to create and publish a school newsletter and annual yearbook. Basic photography and layout
will also be included. Homework time will be approximately 1½ hours per week during Sessions 1 & 3.
Weekly yearbook meetings (2 hours) REQUIRED during Sessions 2 & 3.
