Middle School Class Descriptions

 

Class: United States History
Description:     Using the Drive Through History DVD series and 50 Short Lessons in US History as our main textbook source, along with handouts and websites,
students will gain a solid knowledge of U.S. History. Class will be structured in a manner that engages students during class time by reviewing weekly lessons
using quizzes, journaling for advanced students, short portions of DVD and a heavy emphasis on games.
 

Class: United States Geography
Description:     Using handouts and provided websites, students will gain a solid knowledge of US geography. Class time will be structured in a manner that
engages students during class by reviewing weekly lessons using quizzes and a heavy emphasis on games. Assignments done at home will include map work
websites and worksheets that may require research. Students will be required to turn in 1 report or project at the end of the year. All curriculum materials will be
provided by instructors.
 

Class: Language Arts Through Literature
Description:    Through an in-depth study of literature, students will experience an integrated Language Arts curriculum, including reading, spelling, vocabulary,
reading comprehension, listening skills, grammar and punctuation, writing, resource citing, and critical thinking. Total language Plus curriculum will be used.
 

Class: Writing- IEW Style
Description:     This program greatly assists in writing short stories, research reports, etc., using the step-by-step method for learning writing techniques developed
by the Institute for Excellence in Writing. Class time will include video presentations and in-class teaching and working time. A basic knowledge of grammar and
paragraph structure will be helpful.
 

Class: Apologia General Science
Description:    This course is designed to be a student's first systematic introduction to the sciences. There are over 30 hands-on experiments to complete which
will be followed by written lab reports.
 

Class: Apologia Physical Science (8th - 9th grade)
Description:     Written from a Creationists viewpoint, this overview of chemistry, physics and earth science is a user-friendly course covering a wide range of topics.
This course is designed to be the last science course the student takes before taking high school level science classes, and is generally recommended as an
8th or 9th grade course. Over 30 lab experiments are included.
